Brake Pads, Rotors info needed plz

Just a quick question to anyone who can respond, I understand that brake and rotors replacement can vary on how often but is there an approximate number of miles I can get on my 2009 128? I have about 63,000 miles on my car, not hard driving. Light just came on for brakes and I was told I need front and back brake pads and front rotors. When I mentioned this to someone they were surprised I needed rotors. Again light just came on and I brought it right in. No squeaking or any other indications there were rotor problems. Thoughts?

BMW rotors are pretty soft and wear more that rotors on other brands. Considering the cost of shop labor it is not worth the cost to machine a rotor that only costs $85. It is quicker (and probably safer) to just replace the rotors.

63k is good wear for brakes. According to the OBC, my 128i will need fronts at about 50k and rears at around 65k.

While BMW rotors occaisionally last longer than pads, it is quite common to replace both at the same time.

The rotors have a minimum thickness stamped on them, if they are above this thickness. you can install a new set of pads (they are designed to wear below the min thickness for the last set of pads, without a problem).

You have more than enough wear--if there is any question at all about it, just replace them.
No matter how fast you go, you still have to stop. Your brakes and tires are real life safety issues. My counsel is always to never "skimp" on the above...good luck sorting it out.

It's recommended to always replace rotors at the same time as pads on BMW.
