Intermittent Coolant Light

I have searched various forums and tech feeds and so far I have not found an exact example of what I am experiencing with my 89 635csi. Recently I am noticing a coolant light popping on especially during running errands with a lot of stop and go. The coolant level is fine and I have checked fuses and sensors and found nothing as of yet. Although, I don't think the aux fan is coming on. Is there anyone who has experienced this with their e24? I don't know much about this car and learning more and more each day. I want to have a heads up prior to taking it to a mechanic.

Your Aux fan is usually controlled by two sensors (some have only one) in the radiator. Check these, they're known to fail. You may want to consider that you can buy replacements that get your car to run a little cooler by changing the temp range for the slow and fast settings. If the sensors (they're actually switches) are OK, check the wiring and the electric fan motor itself.

Coolant light indicates 'low coolant level'. Do you mean the 'overheat light' that is part of the temp gauge? The fixes are vastly different for the two problems - over to you.
