Lemfoerders transmission mounts - why are some details erased ?
Hi guys,
Just received 2 Lemfoerder transmission mounts and looking at them, it appears that on both a dremel of some sort was used to erase information imprinted on the rubber, on exactly the same place. Since there is no Lemfoerder sign to be found anywhere on that part, I start to worry now as to what exactly I am holding in my hand ... ![]() Have you seen that before ? Pictures below: |

If you bought these from an online vendor (not your BMW dealer), the standard explanation is that the "BMW" stamp was dremeled off at some point along the supply chain.
For conspiracy theorists, I suppose it would be attractive to argue that the dremeled section had something like "URO" or some other crapmaker's logo instead. A Lemfoerder mount should at least have a Lemfoerder logo mark. |

Yes, I have purchased them from a well known vendor and arrived in Lamfoerder boxes, but they were not sealed. That vendor also sells URO parts so ... I am suspicious ...

pelicanparts.com has the same "dremeled" appearance in the link to the lemfoerder http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...3%29%2C%20Each

notice its in the same location relative to the notch in the top of the rubber as well as the little thing that looks like a sun.

hmmmm... sounds fishy too me, lol...
I just installed Rogue Engineering Tranny Mounts while I'm doing my clutch... they appear beefy, with no "dremmeled" look. |

different brand than the one in question. The one is question is the oem supplier purchased from outside the dealership but still the same part. They most likely didnt feel like making a second mold to cast the part for secondary market distribution.

If the part in question had the BMW logo, it had to be shaved off. Only BMW dealerships can sell parts with BMW logo marked on the parts. That's why the part has the shaved mark. At least that's my understanding.

Here is my optimistic and wishful thinking theory: If you look at the 2 picture below, you will noticed a PN molded on the mounts (some numbers from those PNs may also be seen slightly on my first post pictures): Those numbers are the last part of the BMW transmission mount part number 22 31 6 771 219. That PN is also printed on the Lemfoerder box the mounts came with. Real OEM says that that PN was discontinued on 12/2010, being replaced by 22 31 6 799 331. Now if you measure the space it took them to mold "771 219" and compare that to the length of the part demeled off ... well there just isn't enough space to actually print any letters. The dremeled part is just long enough to erase the beginning of the PN: "22 31 6 799 331". The space between the groups of figures is quite large. Have a look below where I tried to reconstruct the erased PN: So, at most it was just a logo beside the PN. No letters. But who's logo was it ? And was the erase of the beginning of the PN intentional ? Why ? Maybe Lemfoerder had a very large stock of this made for BMW 22 31 6 771 219 at the time when BMW decided to discontinue it on December 2010, so now Lemfoerder are selling them but erase the BMW logo since the current BMW PN for them is different. That's the wishful thinking I was talking about ...
