The "stop engine check oil "light in my 1995 740il goes on when car is running at idle and when I slow down to stop and or traffic lights while driving, what could this mean?

I had the same issue 3 months ago with my E38 '97. "Stop eng oil press" is the msg shown. I went got a full synthetic oil change after buying the oil and filter (the labor cost $20) and I stopped seeing the warning. 2 months go by and upon stoppin abruptly for a cat that decided he wanted to TRY to use one of his 9 lives, I got the msg again. I found out that I have an oil leak and more specifically, I need to change my valve cover gaskets. Your issue may not be as serious, but I'd definitely look into th possibility. More or less, get the oil changed or change it yourself, if yu receive the error again in 2 or more months, then you have an oil leak

OUR valve cover gaskets are known for leaking oil, also note that yu probably won't notice oil spots on the ground unless its really really badly leaking. I have to replace mine as wel as my valley pan gasket (leaking coolant).

If you have an oil warning light but oil level is ok when you check the dipstick, you could have:
-oil pump sump is clogged (you need to remove lower oil pan to inspect/clean)
-oil level sensor is faulty (there is a TSB out there about that) and you get false warnings.

This issue should be sorted ASAP because if you fall into the first scenario, irreversible damage to the engine is occurring. In this case the oil warning is accompanied by a dry running sound of the top of the engine.

Heavier oil, I don't understand...how will stop the oil light.
