Water Pump DIY 2001 X5
Hi all,
Does anyone know of a link on how to replace the water pump on our BMW x5 ourselves? It suddenly started overheating the other day and now I can't drive it for more than 10 minutes before it starts overheating. Our mechanic friend told us a few months ago that it sounded like the water pump would need to be replaced because it was making a noise and 2 days ago it started overheating even when it is idle and with the ac off. We are trying to avoid the very expensive dealer repairs!! Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated! |

I just did it a few weeks ago. It's not too bad. Moving the hydraulic tensioner to remove the belt was a pain, until I realized what was going on. Those instructions, I believe, say to turn the hex nut counter clockwise, when in fact it is clockwise, to relieve the tension.
