Water Pump DIY 2001 X5

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a link on how to replace the water pump on our BMW x5 ourselves? It suddenly started overheating the other day and now I can't drive it for more than 10 minutes before it starts overheating. Our mechanic friend told us a few months ago that it sounded like the water pump would need to be replaced because it was making a noise and 2 days ago it started overheating even when it is idle and with the ac off.

We are trying to avoid the very expensive dealer repairs!!

I just did it a few weeks ago. It's not too bad. Moving the hydraulic tensioner to remove the belt was a pain, until I realized what was going on. Those instructions, I believe, say to turn the hex nut counter clockwise, when in fact it is clockwise, to relieve the tension.
