1988 528e battery size

I have been to sears, autozone and advance auto parts looking for a
battery. They all list a battery at least 13" long. The space I have measures only
about 10 1/2". I just picked-up this car and it was without one. Did they change
the dimension for the final year ? Thanks to all.
