Why is the 7 Series SO expensive to insure??

Is anyone else paying very high premiums to insure their 7 Series? I remember how expensive my 2010 750i was, compared to my ML63 AMG (even though the ML was more $$ and an SUV).

We got our statement from AAA today, and the 2012 AH 7 is $2382/year and our 2012 Bentley Continental GT is $2300/year. So not a huge difference, but the Bentley is WELL over $100,000 more.

Same coverages on all our vehicles...$500,000 bodily injury, property damage. $300,000 uninsured motorist. All cars $1000 deductible.

I remember when I sold my 2010 750i and replaced it with a 2011 X5 SUV...my premium was $1000/less a year!!

Crazy $$$ to insure the 7 Series!!

Mine is $2100 with Allstate for a 2011 750LI and a 2009 pathfinder. Our traffic record is pristine and I have multiple properties, umbrella etc all insured with Allstate.

I think you need to shop that policy. My 7 is only a little more than for my E93 M3. That sounds excessive.

Our records are also pristine. No accidents, tickets and no claims!! I got a quote from BMW Insurance (Hartford, I think backs them)...and they wanted $2500/year for the 7 Series. Insane. Maybe it is CA, Los Angeles??

When I was in LA, I used Wawanesa. http://www.wawanesageneral.com/CA/EN/home.html

Give them a try - a few 'Festers used them. Run a search on the boards to see feedback. But I hear the premiums go up quickly with claims and/or tickets.

7 drivers don't get any sympathy from insurance, cops, registration and repairs. Everyone wants their cut.

That seems way too high, unless its because you have the Hybrid version. I have Geico and I just ran a quote on their website to replace my 2010 528i with a 2012 750li and my premium would only go up $200 a year. So a 7-series and a 328i convertible would cost me around $1,450 a year to insure.

You guys paying way to much, I'm only paying 1200 for my and my Sienna van( which is one of the cheapest car to insure ) is 100 more than my 7. My friend was paying about the same as mine with his 2008 750li, but now he switched to the new 640, and his premium doubled.

And Las Vegas has second highest insurance rate in the States, yes, higher than CA.

Just spent about 15 mins online with Liberty Mutual, they are the company that offers BMW Performance Insurance. They want $3986/year for the same premium AAA is charging me $2382!!! Ouch.

Well you guys are lucky down south. Up here we can't even insure most exotics and some high end luxury cars because our gov't run insurance company refuses to insure these cars even though they're suppose to provide insurance to everyone. Some owners have to get private insurance which is costing over $5000/year.

This thread is funny. My wife was just bitching about how much more expensive the insurance is for the 750i compared to what it was for a 2011 X5.

Are you sure, it is $1200 for year not for six months?

This is factually incorrect. The most expensive cities are Detroit, New Orleans, Philly, Miami, etc.

BMW Insurance is through Liberty Mutual, not Hartford.

I pay around $900/6 months on my M6. Before I turned 25 I was paying $1400/6 months on a 545i. Insurance basically cut in half on that car when I turned 25.

My fiancÚ pays $218/month for her CLK550, which at this point is probably only worth around $22k. She has a history of crashing cars.

This is of course in the lovely state of Kentucky; home of "The Greatest Tradition in the History of College Basketball".
