Nav map updates

The cost to update the navigation maps in a BMW is quite expensive, especially considering that you can buy a lifetime update for something like a Garmin for less than $100 and it is included with many of them from the factory. But, we don't own a Garmin!

Has anyone found a reliable source for updated maps? If so, how did it work out for you?

Has anyone had their's updated at the dealer? If so, what did they charge you?

I can't answer your question, but I can tell you that for my 2008 535, the navigation info was driven from a CD and to update the system, you could get a new updated CD. The new CD cost around $200. I never splurged.

sounds like the CDs are available from BMW cheap, but the FSC activation code is the issue

The GT has harddisk-based navigation (CIC). All updates must be made via your BMW Dealer.
In Europe the total costs are 190 Euro (about 240 US$). The DVDs are cheap (20 Euro), but
the activiation code (made by BMW in Munich) is very expensive.

I got my activiation code for less than 60 Euro with a little help from an IT specialist in east
europe I wasn't sure if it works and if the "dealer" is trustworthy. But I gave it a try - and
it worked fine for me. He provided me the actual maps and sent me the code.

I copied the three iso-Files to an usb-stick und updated my system within 2 hours.

Please send me a note if you want more information...

(hope I didn't violate any board rules here)
