Door open/ key in ignition warning

I fixed this on my 740 a few years ago and have forgotten how I did it! Since I don't have a wife to remind me, somebody please help! Steve it's an 1995 e34 530, two days new.

Assuming you are referring to the E30 listed as your vehicle, I would recommend you ask the guys on the E30 forum Here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=96. They would likely be more familiar.

Another option would be to PM _Ethrty-Andy_ He is very knowledgeable about a lot of the BMW's. He has built several E30's.

Ah, so it is an e34.

So lemme guess...

With the door closed you turn the key to ign. position 1 and it immediately exclaims "KEY IN IGNITION".

Then, as you are driving along the warning "DOOR OPEN" appears. Right?


You problem is in the door catch button. Either it needs to be replaced or a wiring fault needs to be fixed.

Before I got the car the key switch housing was replaced and now the "key in ignition" alarm runs until the car is started. I pulled the DS panel, disconnected the gong and exposed the steering column but that's as far as I'll go without help.

OK, the door latch striker plate button was worn. I fixed it with two layers of elec tape until I can replace it, Thanks!
