Experiences with 235/60/18 Winter setup?
Obviously I am planning way ahead, but has anyone run 235/60/18 instead of the standard 255/55/18 for their winter tires? Experience tells me that a narrower tire and more sidewall is generally better for tough winter conditions, within reason. Would verify that load range of the specific 235/60 tire is OK of course. Curious to hear any feedback on dry road and snowy conditions.

Running Vredestein Wintrac 235/60-18
I put these on a set of 210 wheels that came with my X5. Locally, Direct Tire and Auto carry Vredestein so I bought them and had them installed.
There was a big storm on Jan 21 2011. Memorable day for many reasons. I had to leave the house at 5:30AM for a long highway drive. I was ahead of the plows, and was at least 6 inches of cold churned up snow on the highway. Traction and handling were superb even at high speeds. On dry roads at high speed, the car leans more going into corners when compared to the lower profile 19" summer tires, but really not bad. I considered getting the Pirelli Scorpions but no regrets on the Vredesteins. Last edited by stimulus; 07-31-2012 at 04:50 AM. |
