What all did the dealer try to sell you at delivery?

My 2013 328i is currently on it's way to port of exit. Hoping it will get on the TAMESIS leaving Bremerheaven on the 8th and reach NY on the 18th for an August delivery.

At that stage I'm expecting the dealer will try to sell me the usual things like extended warranty. I'm curious what else dealers try to sell these days and if any of those are actually useful?

I've heard some dealers offer some sort of coating for the car that prevents scratching, etc. Does anyone have more info on that?

I agree, they push tire insurance the hardest, that would mean they make the most money from the tire insurance.

Is tire insurance worth it? What does it cost? Can't be that much since tires are not that expensive to replace (in the big picture).

Here in Germany my dealer only showed me the BMW prospect with extended warranty plans. But the did not actively try to sell it. It was more like "this is an option if you are interested" kinda thing.

I have never heard of a tire insurance, at least no one ever offered one. I just googled this and it seems they are available for about 10 to 30 EUR per four tires for two years (about 14-40USD), but no one really seems to buy them.

You can search and find entire threads about the tire/wheel insurance sold in the US. Basically you pay a 3rd party for insurance on the tires/wheels of the car, so if you scrape a curb (can't drive) then the insurance will pay for a free replacement wheel.

Likewise, if you put a bolt through a tire, you will get a new one.

Also, some people sing the praises of the tire insurance because apparently they (and their dealer) have no qualms about tires mysteriously having nails go through them right before the tread life is exhausted.

of the wheel?

Not any more possible to prevent wheel scratches than preventing scratches of the finish. Many newer wheels are clear-coated and so you can use whatever polish/wax on them you want.

The most common reason for curbs getting scraped is curb rash. No amount of coating is going to prevent that from happening.

No such thing that actually does that.

Chip Guard if you want to search for it. There are other films: ClearMask, Clear Guard etc.

Tire/wheel insurance already mentioned.
Teflon or similar for upholstery protection
Under-coating
Warranties
Maintenance plans
$199 BMW Concierge service (via iDrive/etc.) - extension of BMW Assist.

Ah, yes, there are films that protect the front of the car. However, any kind of "paint treatment" is bogus.

If I was getting a new BMW and planning to keep the RFTs, I think I'd get the tire insurance. Have you heard the horror stories related to tires on the new 5 series?

That is true but if you are going to pay 600 dollars or so for tire insurance, put another 600 up and get either the Bridgestone Potensa S-04 Pole Positon or the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Honestly that is the way to go and you still have the RFTs to put on (make sure you store them correctly) when you turn the car back in if you are leasing.

I believe they quoted me 675 on my 07 328i for tires only. You could also buy insurance for the wheels. Its been 6 years so I may be mistaken. if its more now then FORGET it. Use the money and buy some good regular tires.

I never bought tire insurance and this will be my 7th BMW. I have had 2 flats, both non RF i was able to repair at the local gas station for very little. Imagine how much I would have paid in insurance if I had gotten it for every BMW I leased.

This is for suckers. My neighbor bought it. He thinks he'll never have to wax his car. Unfortunately in 6 months that coating will be long gone.

Trust me if such a thing existed professional detailers would be out of business.

Do dealers offered extended maintenance coverage (oil, brakes, etc.)? That one might be worth purchasing cuz we do need to get these things done after the 4 year/50,000 miles.

Most dealers do, but you can buy those at the end of your free factory maintenance program.

I said no they did not push to much. They said there is no way to repair one but some on the site say they can. I think they can be replaced for less than 250 each.

You might be able to get it reparied elsewhere but the dealer wont repair a runflat.

I got the policy. It has paid for itself and then some for every car i have gotten 10+ in the past 5 years.
