ED with no car?/How far can I stretch my order out?

I've been planning on my next car purchase being a ED for quite some time, but I fell in love with a car that is on the lot at a dealer today. I was wondering if anyone has done a BMW "experience" without taking delivery of a car? I'm assuming that they have tours? set up at the factory? Anything else to do at Welt? I'm just afraid that it wouldn't have near the effect of having "my" car waiting for me there.

Also, I returned a lease car in mid-April, so I get a credit if I order another bmw within 6 months. My question is, I'm assuming that I just need to place my order (for a ED, assuming I don't get the one on the lot) within the 6 month window, but how far out can I do my delivery from the order date? For a couple of different reason, the further out the better. If I order in October, I'd like to not make my trip until late Jan, or February. Is this posible? Thanks.

I've gone to Munich and toured the BMW factory and spent the better part of the day in the museum without doing ED. I've also done ED. Both were tremendous but ED is so much better. It would be like a kid going to someone's house for Christmas but not getting any presents.

I would wait and do ED. You can get exactly the car you want and the savings would more than make up for any loyalty program with BMWFS. The only problem with leasing on ED is your are making lease payments while the car is in transit back home.

You can place your order quite a few months in advance but I don't know exactly how far. I'm sure others on the board will know.

I have also done the factory tour and Welt visit without ED, and agree with the previous poster; it just isn't the same. Standing on the ramp looking across at the happy people taking delivery of their car right at the factory was torture. I hope one day to be able to do this; problem I have is that I seldom buy new cars, I typically end up buying a two or three year old car! Oh well.
