Anal Trip Planners

Are you like me and want to make sure everything is in order BEFORE you leave for the trip?

I was stressing about paying for Tolls in France, getting a vignette if I went into Austria or Switzerland, etc. Well I discovered a fantastic website that lets you buy and ship almost anything you need to drive in Europe.

TOLLTICKETS.COM

You can buy your vignette's before you leave and in my case I can get a Liber-T toll box to be able to fly right through all the toll plazas on my way to Paris. Hooray!

I'll be curious to know how the Liber-T toll box works out for you. Our trip is planned for next May.

Yes - Anal retentive is a good trait in the trip planning business. As a ship captain, I have spent countless hours pouring over charts for voyages. ( Something the master of the Costa Concordia might have done!) Makes my wife crazy but she will admit to the payoff in planning when we go on vacation. Thanks for the website.

BTW, don't know if a beer will be possible as we are both occupied on the 29th and we depart early on the 30th. In any case, have a great trip.

I'm sorry, but your thread title made me giggle like a little prepubescent boy. I can only ponder whether you are the giver or the receiver.

I tend to be pretty detail oriented when it comes to trips and want everything sorted out prior to departure. The ability to pre-buy the vignette is pretty cool.

I just worry about the big details and get those squared away before departure (plane tickets, hotels in hard to get places/times, etc). If there is a certain place I have to be at a certain time, then I'll book that too. Otherwise, I like to wing hotels, food etc., with a bit of research to make sure I don't miss too many details.

I was overly anxious about vignettes and such prior to my ED in February. When I brought up this same website, some of the veterans of these forums told me I too was being anal. They told me I could take care of all this business with little or no hassle once I got to Europe. And at a cheaper price. I admit I was a bit miffed at the time, but I'm glad I followed their advice. BMW put the emissions sticker on the windscreen ( a handy little souvenir) at delivery. I got my orange vest at an Euro store in Munich. It took me all of 30 seconds to get my Austria vignette at a border petrol station. I needed to use the facilities anyway.

I have to admit, I'm a little anxious myself. I'm taking the advice from this forum and I'll be stopping at the border for the vignettes. I just hope I'm able to recognize it when I get there .

Well, it does seem that while you may make it a practice to be poring over your charts, it seems like the master at the Concordia was pouring over them. The only question is what was he pouring? Barbera, Chianti, or Frascati?

I think this tidbit of info is ED Wiki worthy yes?
Thanks for the tip! I too like to knock out the small details before any major trip, and comfortable (if not looking forward to) winging some of the big stuff, such as hotels, food, etc.

My theory is there are definitely certain things you can "wing." But I have such a limited timeframe, the last thing I want to do is spend extra time dealing with things I could have handled before I arrived. I may have spent 10 years taking French growing up, but it sure as hell didnt stick. Driving in another country can be a stressful enough situation without having to deal with/figure out toll amounts, euros, etc. I love the idea of being able to speed on through anywhere i see the orange T and just let my credit card deal with the charges later.

The only reason I am waiting to buy my safety vests, is I like the idea of overspending on BMW labelled ones at the Welt and sadly I am serious. If I have to have bright orange/yellow vests in the car, they might as well say BMW And what is an extra 2 euros per when you are on vacation anyways!
