Missing piece on F30 Sportline. Is this normal?

I noticed that I am missing a piece on the passenger side fog light housing. I inquired about this at my dealer and the service advisor said that the piece on the passenger side is designed to be open for airflow to the oil cooler. I checked some of the photos on the forums and saw a lot of them like that. However I saw on the F30 brochure (front cover photo that shows a 2012 Melbourne Red sportline) that the piece is there and not missing.

If you have a sportline, can you check yours to see if its missing? If it is not missing and you have it, please reply back and let me know if you have a MY 2012 or MY 2013 and a pic would be nice. I want to believe that this is normal but if it is its a thumbs down in the design department from BMW as it looks awkward and non-symmetrical. Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

It is normal. It is for the oil cooler (i believe) on the sport line.

Yea, all F 35s are supposed to have one intercooler on the right side and one in the middle of the bumper, unlike for the 28s they have none at the sides, only in the mid.

Normal

Yes, just checked my 2013 F30 it is normal. However, with only 600 mile on the car, I noticed the metal filter has already pick up some road pebbles and had to remove them. The metal filter blades are subject to bending when pressed too hard. I wonder if over time it can be replace when too much road stuff accumulates.

That's NOT a filter. I'm guessing you're talking about the intercooler or the aux oil cooler. I would careful when "cleaning" it, dont bend the fins. They are replaceable, but will probably cost a few hundred to over a thousand to replace with labor. Sand and pebbles will work themselves out and dont cause much if any hinderance for airflow, you might do more damage than good by prying them out
