Synthetic or conventional Oil....best to use, '93 325is

I purchased Lucas synthetic 15-40 motor oil for my '93 325is with 127k miles....the parts store delivered the wrong product. I received long drain truck oil. That stuff will be going back tomorrow. I started researching Lucas Oil and it seems to me that it is only intended as an oil additive. Now I'm not sure what to do.

I would appreciate a help[ing hand here...I would like some input on the propper oil to use in this vehicle. I was only going with synthetic because I heard it is better. If you guys could give a newbie some advice and point me in the right direction here I certainly would appreciate it fellas. I'm in the early stages of my BMW learning curve and really want to do whats best for the car.

Thank you very much..!!!!!

Look at the top of the previous page. Those are the "Sticky's". There is one specifically for all things E36 Oil.

Thank you much Ed...

Looks like I've got allot to learn about oils....

I'll do my homework and be that much better for the learning. I appreciate the pointer to the stickies...for sure..!

Have a good one. Mike.

Ed was too nice. What he meant to say is something along the lines of:

Is it even possible to beat this dead horse any more than we already have?

Yeah...no kidding, ha?
I quickly picked up on that when I started reading the stickies. You guys can't say our post any more about it....the damn horse is dead....I get that. But Ed was kind enough to point me to the stickies...that, in itself, was all I needed. Just an accurate indication of how new I am to the forum. I don't want anyone to tell me specifics on the car maintenance...like specifically which oil to use...i'm actually more interested in learning myself...but some guidance and navigation tips on the use of the forum is great and I am grateful to Ed for for that.

I'm going with royal purple....

Just get some Mobil1 High Mileage 10W40 or some Shell Rotella T full-syn 5W40 and call it a day.

That is your free answer to a tard n00b question.

I use Royal Purple and I like it. I bought a 5gallon jug of it for my X5. Should be good for 2 oil changes and some top-ups.

I got weird looks from the neighbors, though. Five gallons is a lot of oil.

What did the 5 gallon jug cost you, and where did you buy it?

Thanks for the link. I really expected it to be cheaper in quantity. That's $8.60 a quart. I can buy it local for that.

Hmm, when I priced it out it was like 20% cheaper than local and about 10% cheaper than a per/case buy. Perhaps the price has changed.
