Was your CA's name Tina? I bought my X5 through her and would have done the same with the F30, but my loyalty goes to Jon who was wonderful to work with! He even picked us up at the train station when our car was ready for delivery.

I bought mine at Sterling too. Back in August when I picked it up the shop foreman told me ASS would be completely disabled and I would have to pay them to return it to how it came from the factory. When I said that isn't what the service bulletin says he said he wasn't an engineer and I should take it or leave it. I decided to wait until my first service to have it done. Probably not at Sterling after the misinformation given by the shop foreman.

@Lorenzzo
How did yours turn out?

I went straight to the service manager but I don't think it matters as they seem familiar with the SIB and making money on it like any other warranty item. August may have been before they were up to speed I went in a little aggressive, referring to the system by its initials, ASS, but I think I could have handled it like any normal item.

It works fine, retaining the last setting the next time the car is started.

Does anyone know if new cars that have been produced since the service bulletin now default to the last user setting mode for auto start stop?

I have an appointment next week to do the recode. The first time I went there, the first two SAs had no clue what I was asking for. Finally there was an old timer who knew exactly what I was asking for. Persistence pays off. But it is disturbing that there are SAs who are not familiar with their own cars.

My car's production started around 8/17 and it didn't come with last user setting mode for auto start stop coded. 335xi MSport.

They do not come recoded from the factory.

It must be requested at the dealership level before the car arrives so that they do it as part of the prep for delivery. To avoid a days delay, new owners should discuss the recode with their SA and have the dealer get the authorization the day before expected delivery.

I asked my dealer to re-code the A.S.S. before I take delivery of my 328i in the next few days, but they responded that the EPA won't allow them to do it before the car has 2,500 miles on it.

How should I respond politely to the dealer? Ask for documentation? Reference all the people online who have had their cars re-coded?

BMW will now code your Auto Stop/Start to default to last user mode - SIB/TSB i

I had mine done with less then 1,000 miles. It isn't a break in obstacle, so why the wait ? Done at Princeton BMW in no time as I waited.

Well, I dont know if the rules are different in North Carolina than in California, but I bought a 335i off the lot that had 17 miles on it, and had it re coded 2 days later when the car had about 70 miles on it (finding this board and finding out it could be re coded).

So I can confirm 100 percent that, at least in california, I was able to take delivery of a car of the lot, and bring it back when it had less than 100 miles for the re code of that feature.

I am really happy we can re code it by the way.

Yea, I think its a bogus excuse. Plenty of people on this forum have had it done at delivery or a week or two after.

I'm just wondering how I can get my dealership to change it's stance.

As others have already said, that's crap. BMW service departments are swamped right now, the E9X recall is drowning the dealerships with service calls.

My dealer did my ASS on Day 2, car had 32 miles on it. And my friend in Cali had it done on Day 1, prior to even taking delivery.

Call the dealer, ask to speak to the head of the service department, that'll be that.

Apologies for reviving an old thread... but has anyone gotten the last user mode coding done after the M Performance Power Kit (PPK) was installed? I'm hoping it's just me being paranoid, but the car doesn't feel 'right' after the last user mode for A.S.S. was completed at the dealership. I'm hoping the coding is isolated to a specific part of the ECU programming, but I'm guessing it's likely that the entire car was re-coded? Any ideas?

Also there was a rumor that BMW sent out a bulletin that told dealers to stop coding it in this fashion...

Wish I read this thread earlier. When I asked my CA two weeks ago if there was some way to have ASS settings stored he said no without mentioning the possibility of coding. He told me that only 2014 models will have the feature.

Ask the Service Advisors at your dealer. If they wont do it, you can try to find a coder in your area to turn it off for you. When a third party coder does it, the "back end" of the change is slightly different, but the end result to you, the driver is the same.

A 3rd party coder can put it to "last state" or "off by default". Some will charge, and some might even do it for free (if you were in San Diego, I would do it for you for free).

Consider disabling the stop start feature

I've had my 2013 528i for about 1 month. I don't really like the auto stop-start. I've been turning it off manually. The dealership told me they can disable it and they will do it 1 time for free. I would be chargered if I wanted it enabled again in the future. Has anyone had it disabled at the dealership and if so are you glad that you did?

It's not disabled, bur rather changed so it stays where you leave it (on or off) when you turn off the car, rather than have it default to enabled every time you start the car. This re-coding also disables ASS completely when in Sport mode. By default, when you put the car in Eco mode, it's enabled though. Confusing, eh?

WARRANTY INFORMATION
The conversion procedure outlined above can be submitted for reimbursement, one time on eligible vehicles, during the BMW New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty coverage period of 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first.[/QUOTE]

During my last (recall) visit to my dealer I asked them to disable the ASS function. By that I meant DISABLE it permanently. They agreed...mentioning that BMW NA was keeping track of such customer requests.

It worked fine for about a month...never engaging automatically at a stop. Then I valet parked my car (mistake) in Long Beach for about 10 days. Upon my return and as I was driving home the damn ASS system was engaged again...huh?

It's been "acting up" again as I've had to disengage it several times. What a pain in the...

I don't have a reason to return my car to the dealer at the moment but will have "words" with them during my next visit.

What will it take to PERMANENTLY disengage this annoying feature...I mean like FOREVER.
