Confused by gap inder rear coolant rail

So i have done the valley pan and there are still coolant leak issue.... i started to pull it back apart today and noticed this gap at the back where the valley pan is, it would normally be concealed by the pipes and rear coolant manifold... is this gap normal???? it looks like a rubber grommet or a sensor should live in there.

its has be thrown as i cant find any pics on this online. i am hoping that this is the cause of my woes... if not then can someone tell me what this gap is for????

Are you sure that's not just an indentation that was machined into the casting?
If you dry out the coolant that is in it does it reappear?

yea its an actual hole, it seems to be a overflow of some kind but i thought the whole system was pressurized, so having a hole like this with an overflow does not make much sense.

The system is pressurized, so there shouldn't be a hole there.
I just checked mine, no hole or plug there.
