E46 engine hissing on start up

My 2003 bmw 325xi is hissing when I start it up. The check engine light came on and I'm assuming that it is relating to this problem. Any suggestions what the hissing noise could be? It sounds like it is primarily coming from the driver side towards the center of the car. Right above the oil dipstick. Please let me know with any suggestions.

Step 1: get it scanned for codes to find out what the CEL means.

Hissing from the top, front left side of the engine could easily be a torn intake boot. A common issue and a cheap and easy DIY.

thank you. i also checked this evening when i remove the disa valve sensor from the disa valve the hissing noise stops. and when I replace the sensor it continues to hiss. Could it just be the disa valve or its sensor?

Can the disa cause sputtering, and stalling of the engine?
