Daytime Running Lights

I just got an '07 X-3. My '06 325i (RIP-totaled) had a light switch that looked identical to the X-3s. I flip the switch all the way to the left, and the headlights will automatically come on at dark. Problem: in the daytime, unlike the 325i, the running lights don't automatically come on. The book says "You can have daytime running lamps activated on your vehicle."

Does that mean I have to take it to a dealer to have them activated? Silly, but probably a money-maker for the service depts.

Otherwise, I love the car.

Yes, the dealer will have to activate.

The DRLs and Auto Lock feature and some other features are coded by the dealer

Is the DRL in the form of the lit up corona rings?

Not necessarily, if you have angel eyes then the DRL will be what you call corona lifths, but as far as i've seen, a car with angel eyes has the DRLs activated from factory anyway. So, it's probably normal lights that are used as DRLs but at dimmed setting!

That's the thing. My 07 X3 have the angel eyes. But from what I understand here, I can't activate it as DRL. Instead the DRL would be the normal light at the dimmed setting.

This is correct, no angel eye DRLs for X3.

AE as DRL

I have a 2008 X3, bmw dealer said they cannot modify module and activate AE, well, they tried but activated the inner low lamps as drl, w/c is not what I want. I am planning to purchase the daeos harness that is used for e90 but has yet to find one that did it. Also found a blogger fr NorCal that claims he can code it, emailed him, still waiting for a reply. If any body has any success, pls share.

I have 2007 X3 with halogen bulbs and I'm planing to add LED halo rings. I'm wondering if I connect them to wires of my corner (orange) parking lights, will it works?

I purchased the Daeos harness and installed it. The problem I'm having is that I can't find where to power it. I piggy backed it to one of the wires going into the headlights but the AE's are dimmed. If I connect it direct into the lead from the battery the AE's light up fine. One more thing, the original DRL lights stay on even though the AE's are on. I thought that was the purpose of the relays to cut off power to the halogen bulb.

Hi Newbie here. Did anybody find a fix to this as I've just had the DRL activated on a 2006 X3 3.0sd Msport and was expecting to see just the halo rings but have ended up with what looks like the headlights on all the time . It does have adaptive Xenon headlights if that makes a difference. Thanks.

I chose to deactivate DRL and just use the parking lights (which in my case are the halo rings) at times. King of like a poor man's DRL. I did not care for the dimmed normal light on all the time or rewiring a harness just for halo on all the time. 2010 x3 with adaptive xenon. I also have the lighting package which turns on the halo's when I use key FOB to unlock doors. Pretty cool at night.

Thanks for the quick reply bobbyp, and that lighting package touch does sound very nice indeed.
