Combox attempt

So I got my combox all wired up and am just trying to get the coding done for it. When I go to read SVT after modifying the VO, I get this error:

Does this mean I need to update a module?
Also, cmb_media shows up but has no CAFD

Looks like ista sees the module and thinks it's good. Going into telephone on idrive just spins with "please wait" and the option to turn off Bluetooth is greyed out.

Show me your FA... did you have 633 in it? You have to remove it.

What did you do... what were your steps...
For the CMB ECU you need to assign a CAFD with "Detect CAF for SWE" and then CODE the ECU. Do NOT push "Code Default Values" !

I'll try to grab my FA tonight. I'm moving, so it's not as quick as I'd like. I'm pretty sure I had that, but it was one of the things Shawn's post said to remove.

Honestly I've repurposed the disable TPMS doc attached to do the process. The difference of course is that I'm only changing the things Shawn put in this post instead of the doc.

FA info here. Looks like I did remove 633 already, but maybe I missed something?

hmmm. would be good to see the descriptions of the SA's. What is your last 7 digits of VIN?

Press READ ECU instead of READ SVT.. and then see for CMB_MEDIA ECU.. check if it has your 7 last digits in the ECU Name "CMB_MEDIA (xxxxxxx)".. check if it has a CAFD assigned.
Is the ECU showing in blue or black letters?

No cafd is assigned to the module. Here's some pics including ilevel in case it's relevant. I was poking around ista too.

Are you able to assign a CAF ?

Click on "Detect CAF for SWE" => Select the CAFD matching your I-Level => Select OK => Right-Click on CMB_MEDIA (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) => Select "CODE". Do NOT push "Code Default Values" !

did you have a TCU and a MULF? If both did you remove both?

Interesting. It doesn't have anything listed for my ilevel. 16-07-507 is the highest version listed by esys, but my istep is 17-03-502. Am I ok to go with a lower version?

I replaced both. I followed the DIY wiring link above but verified it with what I had in ista for the TCU wiring. I couldn't find anything in ista for MULF. I assume it's because I didn't know what to search for. Considering the TCU wiring was exactly the same as the DIY, I assumed the mulf would be as well.
I've attached my comparison spreadsheet I built.

Thanks! That's a pretty good guide. I just noticed my xls didn't attach so I'll convert it to pdf and attach later.

This is a Telematik Combox...

Normaly all are using Combox Media and not Telematics to retrofit.

I read that this i a bit complex to retrofit.

Unfortunately with Telematics i can't help more.

What would you suggest if it were media? As I understand it, they're the same except for the additional ability to enable sos which isn't necessary to do.

Of course, if this is all you can assist with, I still very much appreciate your trying. I may just try assigning the newest revision and see what happens.

regarding assigning a CAF.. do you use psdzdata from your i-level (or newer) with esys? This you need to ensure first. And then try again with assigning a CAF.
If it still doesn't show a CAF, i am not sure if you need different SA's in the VO.

I thought there was some discussions on Bimmerfest regarding Telematics ....but i can't find it... you need to search for it.
But the description above shows also the Telematics retrofit... so i guess you should follow this.
Ensure to backup your original FA and .ncd files(in the CAF folder).

I got the lastest data from Shawn, but it didn't show my revision. I'm thinking I copied it to the wrong place, so I'm going to go verify. That's something that only just occurred to me. I had already assigned the CAF with the latest I could see. It showed the CAFD, but it was in black letters instead of the usual blue.

Reading through this post, I think I need to find a donor car to use for a coding vin. I've searched around, but haven't found one quite yet. It seems like that should only be necessary to enable bmw apps and such, but maybe that's what's keeping it from working. I'm trawling through the entire thread of that post to see more.

Nevermind. A PM to ShawnSheridan solved the issue. I missed some key changes.

Quote:
So you injected CAFD into Combox, added 6VC to FA, and VO Coded CMB_MEDIA and HU_CIC for 6VC?
Once I added 6VC and updated the date, it worked.
For future people who might be as confused as me, Zeitrium is the date field that needs to be updated to =>0910.

And thank you again to cuorealfa1 for sticking with it to try and help me.
