tire pressure monitor light
Other day, at approx couple of hours past mid day, while i was driving on a normal road at 60Km/hr, I got the tire pressure warning light. I could not feel any tire pressure loss (through steering), stopped the vehicle, and had a walk around. I could not find anything obvious; i strolled to the next available fuel station (which was only few meters away), waited for 15 mins, checked the tire pressure and re-set the monitor. When I was filling the air, again there was no obvious signs. I have since been driving without the light coming up nor loss of tire air pressure.
Has this happened to some one else; is it really a false alarm or am i missing something here? Thanks.

same thing has happened to me since i got a flat....i got a flat and the sensor came on....i got it changed and the place reset the light, ever since the light keeps coming back, i'll reset it before i leave my house than after driving on the highway it will come back on and i cant seem to figure out why my pressures are all good. i have a 2004 x3 and my friend told me i don have tire monitors but than why when i got a flat it told me? and now it keeps coming on...i cant figure it out

It utilizes the ABS sensors to detect a rotational speed discrepancy in one wheel. That is an indicator that tire must be partially deflated (at least 10 psi down). Don't know which system Jenny has as she doesn't let on what model year her X3 is. If it's the later direct TPMS system with a sensor in each tire valve then false alarms are more common with that because of the greater sensitivity. Haven't heard of false alarms with the FTM, but hopefully it is not a sign that an ABS sensor is on the blink. The reset procedure for FTM has to be done as per the Owner's Manual, and I wouldn't rely on a tire shop tech. to do it correctly. |

Somewhat similar issue. '09 model, Sport Activity Pkg, 235/50 R18 tires
Both times: Hot day (90F), car was parked outside in a parking lot for an hour or so. At startup, tire icon showed up and would not go off. Eventually it just turned off by itself. Restarting does not help--once it is on, it stays on for 20+ minutes, until after the next stop (car is driven, parked somewhere still hot, and then started again after some period, e.g. 30 minutes). Times are all approximate as it's only happened twice. There were other equally hot days when it did NOT happen.

Once I did the re-set, it did disappear..hopefully, its a one off. I havent driven it for the last week or sort, will be back home in couple of days; will find out if the tire was really bleeding!!!
