Trunk/Boot Lid Lock

Guys, recently about 4 months ago, I popped up the trunk/boot by pressing the button on the remote. When I went to close the trunk/boot, it would not shut as it felt like the lock was closed even when the boot/trunk lid was open and just bang at the lock and come back up. I pressed the unlock button on the remote again, tried to close and it worked. Since then, this happens randomly every other week. Has anyone had this issue frequently and know what is the fix?

Your lock mechanism is most likely jammed.Best to open it up and see.More often than not the issue is not being able to open the trunk lid due to a faulty actuator.
On the lock mechanism itself there is a spring to bring the latch to lock after hitting the assembly on the trunk.

Do you mean to say kind of rusted, tries to open and then closes again while the boot lid is up. So, in other words mechanical issue, not electrical?

Actually the wires in your trunk lid hinge are probably frayed and on the verge of breaking. You can do a search on trunklid wires for the e60 and plenty of info will come up. Here's a start:

Same thing happened to me once with my door. You just to undo the hinge in the lock by pulling it back
