lens replacement for headlight for facelift mod

could one swap out this 99+ headlight lens
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E-38-Hea...#ht_547wt_1127

to the 98- headlights and use the bottom plastic trim. would this all fit.
and leave the 98- corner lights and fenders alone..

kind of a half facelight. i was hoping to get the facelight trim for under the headlights without swapping fenders and blah blah

You'd need to change the fenders too because of thinner turn signals

You can't use the bottom trim that is below the lens between pre & post facelift...totally different designs. The pre face lift is straight...the post facelift is scalloped.

I do believe you can insert some of the innards of the post facelift inside the glass lens of the pre face lift...but you will need to use the lower trim and the fenders from your pre-99...as stated above, the turn signal lens is slimmer on the 99-up thus there will be a gap if you install 99-up lenses into a 95-98 E38.

The 99-01 exterior lens won't fit on the 95-98 headlamp assembly correctly...again, due to the "scalloped" lower edge isn't the same size as the straight trim piece...and where this trim piece meets the fender will be off because the 99-01 turn signal is slimmer than the 95-98. Also, the 95-98 turn signal lens is not only bigger...but also ends at the line in the hood. The 99-01 turn indicator continues from the side and goes about 1" towards the headlight lens (past the cut/line of the hood) to meet up with the curved edge of the face lift lens.

This stuff should be will documented in DIYs on e38.org. Look through any DIY about headlights and you can see the difference between the two.

99-01 scalloped lens...note how much bigger the scalloped trim piece is vs the straight 95-98 trim piece

95-98 lens...note how narrower the straight trim piece is and how it meets the fender is also not as big as the face lift
