BMS N20 Stage 1 tune update?

A few weeks back someone posted their initial impressions of the Burger Motorsports N20 Stage 1 tune for the 328. Has anyone else purchased/installed it, or can the original poster give us an update? It appears to be a nice little bump for the price, but some more input would be nice. Thanks.

We have this installed on the Bimmerfest Project F30 and are helping out with the development and getting the software tuned up. Ours is the first 6 speed with the tune so we have been able to help work out some of the kinks which are to be expected with a beta product. It certainly feels like there is more power but I don't have any facts/figures yet to give you on it. We are continuing to work with Terry to log miles and tweak the settings on the car.

Ok, that's great. Maybe you could ask Terry to come back on here and comment on the progress. Thanks very much.

I have been logging some miles with terry as well. I was the OP a few weeks ago. We are fine tuning the settings and boost right now but so far ive been pleased. Power jump is quite substantial and the pickup from the line is very much improved. I am trying to smooth out the power band a little more with the higher boost settings, but all in all im very happy with the tune. for under $400, this thing really performs in comparison to the Hartge and Kelleners at $1500 and up!

the more people to pick one up, the faster the tune will be improve and Terry can get on to stage 2 and 3 for the N20.

Hey guys,

BETA testing is going very well. We regularly post updates to the N20 BETA thread on n54tech for those interested in firmware updates, etc, as we post them. And for those interested in jumping in and trying it out we have them on our website and in stock. Recently Bavarian Technic added F30 support to their very popular scanning tool (which reads BMW's hidden codes) so for those of you paranoid of hidden detection codes there is a mechanism now to read/delete them. So far, we've yet to encounter any with the Stage1.

Another tester recently did a dyno comparison with some nice gains! He started the tuned run a few hundred RPM later than the OEM one.

Glad to see the development on the N20 tune going well thus far! Any luck getting your hands on an F30 335i so you can get a stage1 tune going for that particular n55 application?

Thanks, Terry. So, when do you anticipate it coming out of "Beta", and how difficult is the install on the F30 if you're not a mechanic but moderately inclined?

Oh, and Jokerswld34, will you report back to us in a couple more weeks? Thanks.

The install is really easy so that shouldn't be an issue.

Still no luck with a local F30 335. Hopefully someone turns up soon! Really out of parking spots around here so would prefer to avoid buying one, although it may be inevitable. Jason@BMS here is planning to pickup a coupe when they are available so if no one turns up we may also wait until then. The good news is we've started tuning a few remotely so we can at least get started on the process.

No set ETA for removing the BETA tag, probably not for some time. But install is 5 min or so. Very simple. The install guide is on our website under installs if you want to check it out.

Thanks, Terry. I have no idea how well the tune works, but I sure do appreciate your access and hands-on nature, thus far.

Now get back to work. My F30 arrives in 3 months, and I don't want to be delayed!

Still listed as beta on Burger's site. Not much else out for the N20 yet.

Just to clarify this statement a bit...I contacted Bav Technic and asked specifically about their tool's ability to find tune detection codes on the F30. They responded that they are unsure about whether their tool reads these codes on this particular car. Thus it is not a given that the Bavarian Technic tool will read and clear tune detection codes on the F30.

It does. I trigger and delete them all the time during development.

On the N20 Stage1 tuning, we have around 100 of the tunes out on the road now and they are working very well. Including several X1s, some 528s, and even a couple 320s. It should be a misdemeanor to drive this motor stock.

When you sat N20 do you also include the N26? I know you are in So Cali, but my 328i has the N26 not the N20 and I just wanted to know if you have any installed on the N26 at this time? I hear that the only difference in the engine is some fuel lines, etc, but no one knows if it also includes ECU modifications.
I probably have to wait until October to consider getting the tuner, but I'll be happy to try it at that time either way.

Terry, have you tuned a car with a down pipe and intake yet?
