M Double Clutch Trans w/Drivelogic

Does the M Double Clutch Trans w/Drivelogic have an automatic mode for those who only want to pop it into drive and go?

Yes, the DCT acts like any other automatic transmission with a manual mode. The internal workings are very different than the steptronic but the user interface is identical. You can put it in D and just go or you can control it manually with the paddles.

So, yes, Furby, to answer your subliminal question, you do have the requisite skills to drive one...

LOL.

I want a manual for my next car but may have to compromise. I don't like steptronic so much - feels like the car has more control then me. I am hoping that double clutch is not as automaticy...but living in center city philly it's nice to have auto sometimes

I rarely hear the word compromise used when referring to acquiring a car with a dual clutch transmission.

I would say the "user interface" is not quite identical as an automatic. It has a feeling of a manual. For instance, when accelerating from a stop you can "feel" the clutch engaging first gear. When backing up you can "feel" reverse engaging.

I would not call what you are describing the user interface. I consider the user interface to be the way the driver controls the transmission not the way it feels as it operates.

OK. I'll buy that.

For those who just want to put the DCT in D and go, it is probably the smoothest transmission I have driven in a BMW. It puts the SMG of the E46 M cars to absolute shame. Part throttle acceleration up to speed, you have to watch the dash indicator count up the gears, it is that smooth.
