E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135. |

Embarassing Question
I feel kind of stupid asking this, but I'm not much of a car techie guy and my 128 i is still rather new to me: How long does the car radio and other battery draining stuff stay on after I park my car in my garage? I have Comfort Access. When I park the car the radio and some lights stay on unless I relock the car. It's kind of stupid to do so inside my own garage. Besides, when I've parked the car inside with the top down. lock the car, but later realize I need something from the inside of the car, the freakin' alarm goes wailing. That's a good thing, but not inside my garage. Do the electronics shut off after a certain time and can I adjust that time somehow?

The radio shuts down when you open the door or a couple minutes. Lights are only on a minute or two after you leave the car. I don't have an alarm so I don't know about that.
I don't leave my top down when parked in the garage, by the way. I don't know if it hurts anything but the top is creased up when I put it back up and I figure it's best not not leave it in that position for extended periods of time. I might not be right. Jim |

I've owned a couple push-button start BMW's. I'm assuming the process is the same, but my bad if it's not. When you stop the car, if you push the start/stop quickly, it will just stop the engine, but not the accessories (such as the radio). Yes, they will shut off after a few minutes. Instead, push and hold the start/stop for a few seconds and you should find that everything turns off to include the radio.
I'm sure someone can confirm/deny.

Thanks guys. Holding down the "start" button when I'm ready to get out of the car did the trick. I figured there had to be a way to shut things down without having to lock the car each time.

Why would you leave the radio and stuff on anyway. Just hold the button a little longer and everything turns off. |
