First x6 Road Trip today

My wife and I got out on the road today for the first road trip in the new X6. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!
First of all, please get the 50i if you can. I was torn as my last vehicle was the x5 35i and I thought the power adequate.
If you can afford it, GET THE BIGGER ENGINE!!! At higher speeds when I would punch it the throaty engine just propels this 5200 lb beast to speeds I could never dream of in the 35i. Here in TX we have a toll road that allows 85 mph speeds and OMG at 130 I could swear we were going the 85 mph speed limit. So smooth and quiet. Such a difference from the x5 too. (to be fair x5 was 08 vs. new baby.
What a vehicle.
Also get the upgraded sound system and seats. Wireless Pandora with 2 subs under the front seats.

I have the same X6, and I agree with all of the above. I really cant believe how happy I am with it. I thought it'd be fun for a while then I'd find some faults or get used to it -- but no, she surprises me every day

I had the first x6m that was brought to west coast in 2008 now that car was a blast. I passed porshe turbos and kept up with Nissan gtr from stop with launch control I miss that car but now I love my 645

One more note on the 400 HP 40i. Today's onboard trip computer stat...307 miles, 78 mph avg. speed,
Mileage was 21.2 mpg.

This is the missing key... I think if you had a current X6 35i and changed over to the 50i it would not be as drastic as it is now.. The 35i could and would reach speeds you are experiencing in the 50i with no issues.

Kzang you are correct.
I did test drive the 2013 X6 35i and was surprised at the difference from my 2008 X5 35i.
The twin turbos definitely make a difference in the newer engine.
Also drove the new diesel as a loaner waiting for my x6 50i to be shipped and was shocked at the performance.

did you hear any ticking/clicking from the engine of your X5 35...
it is similar to my x6 engine 6 cyl 35i.

No ticking/clicking Kaid. That was one problem that didn't surface.

I would love to get the X6 with the V8 but from where i go and commute, it is always stop and go traffic

I wonder what it is going to be like with a 1 series coupe with a BMW V8 engine under it ~_^

stop and go with the V8, you will do 12mpg ...

I just measured this this morning, granted i was trying to go light on the pedal and did gradual take-offs, no gunning it, also stopped farther back from the car in front so i could roll rather than totally stop-and-go...

I averaged 16.2 mpg.

If I had done the full stop and go, it probably would've been 12-14.
