Outside manual mirror housings-2001 740il
Went through car wash with mirror housings not folded back.
Brushes slapped both mirror housings back and locking points have shifted so that mirrors are not locked in at driving position, but will lock in at full ahead and fully folded back to car. p.s. Is there a clever way to reset locking points? Last edited by truegarrison; 08-22-2012 at 12:15 PM. Reason: Failed to ask for help. |

Get the manual, take them off and start again.

Problem seems to be mental, rather than mechanical (I.Q. to be re-evaluated soon).
Went through the car wash again and folded mirrors fully back to car before going through. When I came out, I swung the driver mirror out to approximate driving position, and used the mirror positioning button inside to rotate the mirror surface. This action rotated the whole assembly all the way back toward the driver window, and, in so doing, apparently re-set the housing lock points properly. Who knew? Thx. |
