First off, welcome aboard.

I just got my 2013 two weeks ago, my timing:

Order Placed: June 25

Build Complete: July 7

Vehicle Shipped (Bremerhaven): July 20

Vehicle Arrived (Port of NJ): August 2

Vehicle Delivered (NJ): August 7

Six weeks from order placement, four weeks once built, two weeks on the water, less-than one week on the ground.

BJ

Ordered July 2nd

Built July 30th

Shipped out August 8th

Arrived August 18th

Picking up later this week.

6 to 8 weeks is a good bet, longer for the west coast (8 to 10). Even longer for a 335.

Depends on what you order. 328i is different than 335i. And MUCH different if assembly is South Africa vs Germany (SA adds about 4 weeks)

6/25: ordered my 335
7/20: Assembly completed
7/24 to 8/3: in transit to port of exit (Bremerhaven)
8/9: on vessel (Oberon) to US
9/4: Expected arrival at Port Hueneme (CA)
9/7: Anticipated availability at dealer

Yep. Mine took almost 16 weeks -- ordered in mid-March, didn't take delivery until July 3. Part of it was due to assembly in SA, part was due to an allocation screwup by the dealer, I think.

Doesn't matter now, though.

You can specify to the CA where you would like to have it built. I requested for a ULEV 133N designation which is built in Germany. The 133O build is in S.A. You also don't want a SULEV engine which is a modified N20 that has less history - its engine designation is N26.

Mine was about 7 weeks from order to delivery (328i x-drive) but I also hit every possible window at the right time. I got an early allocation slot, my car got on a ship just three days after arriving at port in Bemerhaven, and when the car arrived in CA it was on a covered carrier just a few days after it left the VPC.

I would say that for Colorado 8-12 weeks would be more typical.

from start of production, 4-5 weeks to the east coast, 8-10 for the west coast. add 3-4 weeks for an SA build.

be aware that placing the order doesnt guarentee your car will begin production. if your dealer doesnt have any production allocations, the car wont enter production untill he has a free one and assigns it to your build.

assuming you place the order today:

good scenario: dealer A has a prod slot avail now. car goes into production tomorrow, you get the car end of september

bad scenario: dealer B has no production allocations until october and assigns you an SA build. you get the car in jan of 2013.

Thank you all for your solid input. It sounds to me that if I want the fastest delivery to NY I need to push for a German build.

All of the 328i are being built in Munich, so that's only a concern if you are ordering a 335i. 335i has very limited allocation so if you order one you would want confirmation from the dealer on when they have a build slot available.

Also, be aware that dealers have been known to bump people from an allocation slot if a better opportunity to sell a car at a higher markup comes up... for example, you get a build slot for a $500 over invoice build and someone orders and pays list price you might get bumped depending on how scrupulous your dealer is.

Get a German build and make sure your dealer modifies a Priority 3 order (dealer inventory) he already has in the system to a Priority 1 order (customer sold). There is no reason that they can't give you a production number before you leave the dealership. It takes about three minutes to modify an order that is already in the system. Don't let them tell you they have to wait for a new production allocation. They don't. They can easily modify an existing order.

I agree, the dealer should be able to give you a production order number before leaving the dealership.

i've seen shady dealers string buyers along when they actually dont have allocations, to keep them from going to competitors that actually have them.

bottom line, make sure you have a production number. no production number= no guarentee that the car will be produced in the near future.

I guess my dealer is okay then as I have the VIN, copy of the invoice breakdown and the system says 8/31 completion date.

IIRC a couple weeks in August. Somebody said the car really only takes 48 hours to build.

TomF30 my order is on the Oberon also. I took a look at the most current Oberon port of entry date for Port Huenume. The new date is 9/5 ETA. Must be due to the loop the vessel made near the Celtic Sea/British Isles; when it was going in the wrong direction for about 12-18 hours.

Usually diversions at sea are due to pretty serious causes such as medical emergencies, mechanical failures or weather issues.

VLing: I too noticed that DOUBLE U-TURN, what's up with that? Did someone fall overboard?

I did another search today and learned that there are just under 1500 cars on the Oberon! I only noticed that because I'm still wondering about my choice of external and internal colors. Figure I'll see what my car looks like at the dealer and ask about what other 335's they have that also arrived on the Oberon. Probably still gonna take "my car" after waiting an excruciating 10 or 11 weeks!

I'm still told that my 328i is waiting for a vessel - it has been in port since August 9. Assuming it is in Bremerhaven, I've already missed ~3 ships (WW), then a week with nothing leaving. There is another ship scheduled for Saturday, but no sign that my vehicle is scheduled to be on it. Isn't 2 weeks+ sitting in port long? It isn't cheap to pay storage in port so I would think they wouldn't sit there so long.
