what (according to the owners manual) is the recommended oil for a 1995 bmw 525i m50?

The owners manual is 20 years old. There are much better products than what is in the manual IMO. Opinions on oil are many and varied. Google BITOG, weeks of reading on oil.
I use Mobil 1 0w-40 european car formula. BMW approved, inexpensive at Wal Mart.
