Lost Key

At 11am today, we took delivery of our 2013 X3 xdrive35i...by 1pm, my wife had lost her key. Has anyone else tried replacing one of our fancy keys? Any idea how much it costs? Is there any 3rd party key source that will work for less than BMW?

The cost will be several hundred dollars. For some reason the number $300 is in my head, but I don't remember if that was for my X3 or for a replacement key for the other car, purchased around the same time. As to buying a key from a 3rd party, no, you can't. There is programming involved too. Sorry, but it's an expensive Oops!

PS: Congrats on your new ride.

Any chance you can find the wife's lost key? Went through this with another car (expensive key!) and after a difficult search found it -- in another purse! Too bad they don't program homers where they can "tell" you their locations. I think $300 may be on the light side too!

The keys cost approx $300-$400 each and they need to be programmed with your personal information to prevent theft at the dealer level.
