2000 BMW 740il, Bad crankcase vent valve

After talking with some folks on this site I found that i have a bad crankcase vent valve. Thanks for those who helped.

I will be getting it fixed in a week or so. Until I get it fixed, my question is this.....

Can I drive with dip stick just a half inch out of the tube? I never hear the whining sound this way because the pressure has somewhere to escape.

When I drive with dip stick in the whining sound come on every 20 miles or so.
