I have a 2004 545i with nav, assist, heads up, etc. purchased in April 2004. Has anyone done a DIY install on the eject kit for a Motorola V60 cell phone? I understand the BMW service department will still need to update the idrive program (1 to 2 hours labor). Any comments or suggestions as to degree of difficulty or where I can get further DIY instructions is greatly appreciated. This is a great site.

Here is the response BMW provided to my recent query. Does anyone know of problems with the warrenty resulting from the use of a non-BMW V60 phone? I find it hard to believe that "special chips" were added to the phone.
-----Original Message----- From: lboteler Sent: 7/12/2004 12:00:00 AM To: Subject: Other formid: 1001 Comments: Will my new Motorola V60 cell phone work in my vehicle if I have the dealer install the cradle assembly and software? If not, why not? The cell phone offered by BMW is also a V60. Pls advise. Dear lboteler: Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding your 2004 545i. I hope your BMW is serving you well. If you would like to use the hands free options you must use a BMW telephone that is available through your authorized BMW center. The BMW telephone has special chips that are integrated with the wiring and other functions that are available in your 545i. If a phone is used that is not a BMW phone it could potentially cause electronic failure and even possibly void the warranty on your vehicle. If you have further questions on the installation or the pricing of the telephone, please contact the Service Manager at your authorized BMW center who is best equipped to address this matter. Should you need it, you will find a complete listing of authorized centers, categorized by name, state or zip code, on our website at www.bmwusa.com. If you have any further questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. Sincerely, Tricia Young BMW Customer Relations and Services Representative |
