Lease versus Purchase

Okay, this may be a dumb question, but what is the difference between leasing and buying? I have never been one to lease a vehicle, but I see so many people claiming the bennies to lease verse purchase (especially for BMW's?), talking to the wife, I drive a lot each year (20-25k year), which I understand is a no-no for leasing, but even at leasing it's like buying a new car every six years with the down payments and monthly payment. So the question is how is it an improvement over buying? And if I own my own business is it better to lease (tax purposes) or buy?

BMW sometimes has lease offers that work out to large discounts compared to purchase finance. At 25,000 miles a year you are probably better off with purchase finance but it depends on the deal.

The word lease means a different thing in the UK than it does in the US.

Thats what I thought, I have seen a lot of "lease" a BMW on the forums, so I was curious why there are more leases done, thanks for the info, V/r, Tim.
