Newbie

Hello gents. I bought a 1996 M73 from the junkyard for 250$ because I am just the type of person who gets a tingle from this. Me and a friend pulled it out with hand tools in under two hours. It was fun.

Anyway, I am interested in placing a nice 7 series around it. I do know the car ran when it was placed in the junkyard, but I do not know the condition of the engine/tranny.

Anyway, I am in need of information:

What year car do i need as a donor car?
Can I make a 740 chassis work?

I asked this question on another site, and I do get answers, but noting specific, just vague warnings about how expensive everything will be. I appreciate specific information, not 'you'll never make that work because i said so' ... and nothing specific.

I hope I don't seem too abrasive, but naysayers really irritate me. I have rehabbed many wrecked vehicles for very cheap, and I enjoy doing it, and I am looking forward to having a nice big sleek V12 for a trip car. I can't think of what could be better in life.

I'd try for a similar (750i/750iL) vehicle with a 'dead' engine. 740 would have wrong springs (engine weighs less). Use as much as possible from the CAR as engine sensors can fit the same but give different reading for the same conditions - confuses the engine computer. Also some plugs could have wires in different sockets although the plugs fit together ok. I've brought the dead back to life B4 so good luck. There is nothing as good as driving your own build (no one to blame either!).

In need of a 750il basket case.

So FWIW I am in the market for a 750 basket case! If anyone knows anything, let me know, and I would appreciate the 'just keep it on the road cause I appreciate a 7 series still kicking as opposed to trashing it BECAUSE THE 750il IS THE ABSOLUTE PINNACLE OF MOTORCARS!!!' price.

I ain't scared of fixin nuthin if it means pulling off a cheap 750. I have found a couple on CL for 2000$ which is getting close, but they are too far away. I'm in American SIberia (MN).

Thanks. Still hoping to put the v12 in a 740, but I can't find any info on how to do it. Or if it is even possible.

Possible (body the same - mounts will be close) but you still need sooooooooooooo much of the doner car electronics. Easier to rebadge the 750 as a 740 once you do the swap.

750 engine

Initially, I was told the 750 engines had a lot of problems, but every basket case car I look at with the M73 has a good engine! I have been trying to find one on search tempest, but it is rare to find one with a bad engine!

Maybe that;s a testament to how good the M73 engine is, just a thought.
