Being addicted to drugs while having a load of fortune and fame is weak.

Sad to hear, regardless of cause, RIP.

Soooo.. there's some kind of unspoken code that you're not supposed to say what actually killed her? You're supposed to only say nice things, effectively denying that she had a problem? Mention only the talent, sweep the drug abuse under the rug? Tell that to Yahoo and pretty much every other outlet that will cover what drug addiction did to this talent:

Not a fan of her music but it's ways sad when someone wastes such incredible talent and dies so young.

The police are currently as of this reading are indicating and state that "drugs and foul play were not apparent."
Unless YOU our this gene know more than what they know, show a little respect. If you know what that is.

Wow, I really thought once she got away from Bobbie she'd be OK. Really sad regardless of the cause.

OK, but where is your outrage in the McCaulay thread? I'm not understanding why this is different. What was your point in starting that thread making fun of his looks? Everyone is assuming he's using drugs and commenting about it - and you say nothing. There's absolutely no evidence he ever had a drug or alcohol problem where Whitney was known to have a severe problem.

I have no doubt drug addiction contributed to her death. She was only 48 and in an absence of foul play and her own admitted struggles with cocaine and crack, do the math.

"Promoting her 2002 album, Just Whitney, she told a TV interviewer, "Crack is cheap. I make too much money to ever smoke crack. We don't do crack. Crack is whack." But she was freebasing cocaine [similar to crack smoking, through transforming powder into base cocaine], and as the decade went on she was photographed looking disheveled and frighteningly haggard. She and Brown would spend a week at a time taking drugs and watching TV, she later said. In her addled state she agreed to appear on a reality show called Being Bobby Brown and succeeded in losing the last remnants of her dignity, telling her husband in one episode: "I need to poop a poop."

I doubt she died from natural causes?

Having said that, I always enjoyed her music and am saddened by her death. RIP.

+1. Who knows what she was mixing.

her longtime mentor clive davis was to hold his annual concert and dinner saturday, and a representative of the show said it would proceed.

Houston was supposed to appear at the gala, and davis had told the associated press that she would perhaps perform: "it's her favorite night of the year ... (so) who knows by the end of the evening," he said.

Houston had been at rehearsals for the show thursday, coaching singers brandy and monica, according to a person who was at the event but was not authorized to speak publicly about it. The person said houston looked disheveled, was sweating profusely and liquor and cigarettes could be smelled on her breath. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/...96q_story.html

Smell the coffee, the reality is that her lifestyle contributed to her demise. She was a mess and by several reports, broke... borrowing $100 from a friend recently. Most recently, she was given an advance on her next album. She burned through $100 Million in cash.

Apparently my "she was a beautiful woman and amazing talent" go ignored and you look for the spin.

Broke crack addict is the end to her story. A real american tragedy, but I won't stick my head in the sand and ignore reality.

You could always ignore the thread

There was more to her life than crack.

There are periods in my life that if I'd won the lottery, I might have gone batty. I knew one young heir (rail car axles) who blew through the first installment of his inheritance, about a $half mil, at age 25, in a couple of years. I knew him at 30, he was 5 years away from around $5 mil IIRC. Very wary of people. He'd been taken in by leeches in the past - was on an $800 a month trust fund stipend ('85) if he stayed in school, odd given his age.

Point being, he was a nice guy, no dummy, but sudden infusions of money can be hard to deal with. If you earn it in business, industry, something, you have a record of living and learning to get to that point. Good singing is great stuff, but I sometimes wonder if big money from it is all it's cracked up to be.

Isn't that the rule? They've done it with Heath Ledger. Turned him into some kind of acting legend who died too early, always glossing over all the drugs in his system.
