No one has proven anything... most of BMW engine wins for "engine of the year" are for 6 and 8's. More to the point, if the new engine on the X28 engine is so good, why was it beaten out by a FORD?

Again, not impressed by BMW 4 cylinders and this conversation has just convinced me even more - BMW makes great 6 and 8s - nothing impressive by the 4s they are average. And if I am going average I would not get a BMW which I expect to provide a better than average as it always has been.

I am now unsubscribing to this thread since this started as a discussion and now I must be wrong... on something that is obviously opinion based.

I think the writing is on the wall for the bigger displacement engines. And that's not just the U.S, and not CAFE standards. In fact the U.S. is behind the curve on this trend.

But, as long as the cars have the performance, are fun to drive, get good fuel mileage, and the turbos are reliable, then it's all good.

(still I really like my 2.5L naturally aspirated i6 )
