I think the writing is on the wall for the bigger displacement engines. And that's not just the U.S, and not CAFE standards. In fact the U.S. is behind the curve on this trend.
But, as long as the cars have the performance, are fun to drive, get good fuel mileage, and the turbos are reliable, then it's all good. (still I really like my 2.5L naturally aspirated i6
