Rear cargo cover?
Was looking at pictures of the 2008 MSport that we just bought and saw that the rear cargo roller cover was not there, I asked and they said it was an option. Is this true? was it stock or an option.

My 2007 has it and the window sticker says it was $150 option. Which is a deal compared to the new X83 cover price!

![]() Are we talking about the same cargo cover here...? There was an optional one that also had a partition net 'spool' inside of it; maybe that's the one you have, Ben?

I bought an 07 in January (it's been a great car BTW) and it did NOT have the rear cargo cover included. I was kind of under the impression it was not standard based on the selling dealer asking the previous owner if they still had it lying around in their garage (they didn't). I bought the car and then a used cover on ebay for under $200. It was an unforeseen PITA, but at the end of the day not a deal breaker. The used one was as good as new

Ya I thought it was std. on them. at the end of the day I can look at ebay, but thought I would at least see what the dealer says before they ship the car.

I bought an o4 used. it did not have one. I told them I would not buy without it so they took a matching grey one from another used X3 on the lot and put it in mine.

I had an 07 and an 08 X3 and both came with it. And it is not listed as an additional cost on the window sticker.

Standard item. Probably sitting in the garage of the previous owner. I took mine out the day I brought the X3 home and stacked it next to the roller cover from my Tahoe. Useless (but expensive) IMHO.

Disagree.
I take mine out on long trips or whenever I'm carrying my bicycle in the back. Otherwise, especially around town, I always keep it stretched out over the rear behind the passenger seats. I keep stuff in the back while I'm running errands in an urban environment (packages, mail, CD's) and the cover keeps things from prying eyes. Not a strong physical barrier, but definitely a visual one. |

Mine locks into the rear cargo area and has a retractable cover. It also has a net that comes out. My window sticker says $150. But I bought the car used, so I'm going off the sticker.

Ask them to show you the option code then. Perhaps it comes with a package? On our 06 the cargo net was a $150 option but with both sport and prem pkgs the cover is not listed anywhere on the window sticker. On out 2013 there is an option 493- Storage Pkg which is part of the premium package but I have no idea what this is.

Spoke, glad you found a use for yours! I use the back for carrying "stuff" a lot and in both the Tahoe and X3 found that having the cover installed, but retracted, cut down on the ability to do so. Cutting across the width of the back made it difficult to load without taking the cover out and figuring where to store it without lowering one of the seatback sectons. In any case, it obviously is a personal decision -- glad you found a use for yours!
I also keep anything valuable under the rear floor deck lid if I am parked for any period of time in urban areas -- like SFran!

On an extended road trip right now and I keep it closed to keep passers by from taking a liking to my stuff. It also keeps light colored cargo from reflecting off the back window like a heads up display which I find very distracting. |
