Wierd "Hummm" Tranny?

I drive a 1998 528I with an automatic transmission.
Just recently i've begun to hear a soft hum or buzzing when I stop the car.
I'm thinking that it may be coming from the transmission, because I hear it when the car is in gear, but when I put it in neutral it stops.
Has any one had or knows what this may be?

I can hear a planetary gear whinning a little at low speed in second gear in the same transmission, but, that's normal. Can you feel anything in your shifter?

When the car is in drive it has a minor load on the engine/trans. When it is in neutral there is no load. I would check for anything from a belt to an idler to a loose heat shield. I guess there could be a faulty torque converter starting or a trans clutch going, but I bet it's something else.

Have a friend ride under the car at low speed. He'll diagnose it better.

@Jim, No I don't feel anything on the shifter, and I only hear it when the car is idoling in gear, .
@Helpmyfive, Thanks. I'm hoping it's not the clutch!
