Package tray lights

does anyone know what these lights are for on the corners of the rear package tray? Are they supposed to stay on? I never noticed them until my right rear speaker started sounding off an high pitched audible alarm, like the 1 that they use to test the Emergency Broadcast System

the are ambient lighting that lights up the rear shelf and rear roof at night subtly.
