Exclamation AUX for 2001 525i??

So I picked up my first car several months ago, a white '01 BMW 525i and man do I love it. I need to fix a lot of little things on it but on to the point. Take in mind I'm 17 and don't know much about the internals/specifics of cars, but I'm learning.
So I've seen an aux connector out for the e39/e46's but it needs to be made after a certain date in 2002, which mine is not. I'm working on completely redoing the sound system in it but the very first thing I want is aux. What are my options? I need a new head unit as well so if I could knock those two things out at once that'd be fine, I just don't want one of those cheap, tiny red/blue head units they sell at Walmart that every kid has. Thanks a lot in advanced!

for aftermarket head units, you pretty much have two choices, dynavin or hualingan

http://www.dynavin.com/products/product_dnv_e39.php

http://en.hualingan.com/html-en/prod...igati+MP3.html

also check out bavsound

there are products that you can install that will give you an aux input, but I think you'd be better off getting something geared toward an ipod (assuming you have one) that would allow you to control it from the steering wheel.

Thanks man. I'll run this by my dad and he'll know how to order which one I decide on. I'm paying so hopefully I can get one of them for less than $500.

Negative on your price for one of them. The re-design Dynavin looks much better than Hualingan, with better support from authorized dealers in North America. The Dynavin are in $900 price range.
Do you have a CD Changer? There is a way to mod the cable for Aux input.
BTW, welcome to Bimmerfest.

Thumbs up to being 17 and paying for your own stuff. It will be so worth it in the long run—you will gain a ton of common sense and learn much along the way.

If you are on a budget I would recommend finding a used Business CD Unit (CD53) that is made after 9/2002, which is when they added the AUX function. Pick up one of those at a junkyard—try car-part.com for availability, then call each junkyard and ask them to check the build date on the sticker on the Business CD. Also, make sure the software number is right when you call. I forget what it should be, but a google search will tell you what to look for. I went this route and found one for under $115 shipped.

Once you have the correct CD, buy an OEM BMW Aux kit (I got mine on ECS tuning for under $35). It will plug in to the back of the CD53 that you bought and provide great quality AUX sound.

Good luck and report back with what you find!
