DINAN specialists for 335i mod

Since I know nothing about a basic modification, what do people typically upgrade to with what DINAN has to offer? I see stage 3 as a good choice but what else do I need? Is there a combo package they offer? Can you just do the Stage 3 without anything else or do you have to buy 3 different things, etc???

This board tends to be more conservative about modding. You might want to try f30post.

What do you 'need' vs what do you want? You haven't really stated if you want improved handling, or more HP, etc. Do you do track days, AutoX, or do you just want a modified car to drive on the street?

Nobody wanting high performance sees Dinan as the vendor of choice. Here I'm talking about experienced track guys and back road barn stormers. Those who don't mind paying a very high price, and are not conversant in who's doing what, or fear for their warranty, might go for Dinan. Reminder: BMW warranty is invalid for any issue related to mods. That included Dinan - they carry their own insurance. BMW terminated their relationship with Dinan some years back.

Relax - wait for M3 parts - you'll be glad you did, and maybe $10k ahead. HP Autowerks and Ground Control are well known for spec'g suspensions that work very, very well, from basic to ultimate equip. They'll offer better advice and have extensive track experience.

JB4 and Cobb offer significantly better performance, and JB4 offers an integrated Meth system, microprocessor controlled, blows Dinan away. They are the market leaders.

You'll want a limited slip differential for good performance. I installed a Wavetrac for ~$1500 as I hired Sonic to do the job. ~$1k DIY. Wavetrac and Quaife are market leaders; Dinan is a rebadged Quaife + add'l profit.

However, Wavetrac lists no F30 model and don't know about Quaife. May have to wait for critical mass, simply don't know if you can install in your car, but believe me you want it. Much added performance is for naught without.

Very best solution: Wait for nextgen M3, or M4.

Currently, there are no Dinan products for the F30 3-series.

Just to be clear, plenty of people have sought out and gladly use Dinan parts as a performance avenue. Their philosophy is one that says: our products do not decrease daily driveability while increasing the performance of the car.

Also, they are not the value line. They have built a reputation and they profit off of it.

Many vendors offer more "performance oriented" products, especially in the suspension or exhaust end of things. Your BMW will most likely still drive and sound like a BMW with dinan exhaust or suspension products. And probably not with many other vendors products in those areas.

....

I have never bought a Dinan product, though I have some on my car. That being said, i respect them.

If you plan on sinking several thousand dollars in performance improvements to your F30 335i, then just wait for the new M3 to come out. It'll be a better use of your money.

Performance mods for BMW's 3 move it toward M3 - can come very close and exceed in some ways. Dinan is most expensive yet mild in that regard - they have a clientele looking for safety, largely an illusion.

I believe most modders follow my experience: 335i felt good on the test drive - I bought. Wasn't long before realizing there were rather severe limitations. Motivated, I tried non-RFT's. Good result in hand, I read up - second mod was LSD.

That did it! A major boost, the rest was a matter of time. Very satisfied with result. Still annoyed my 335i was so dumbed down.

Dunno - have seen nothing specific. I'd give Wavetrac a call if interested.

I thought about waiting but cant stand my Lexus GS350 so it's gone. My question is what typical upgrades to the engine do most people do? Upgrade to Stage 2 type, Cold air intake, etc. What's most common? I just want more HP and torque really so do I just $2500 for stage 2 or buy additional equipment to make it all work. I have no idea.

Recommend: Pick up N54 '09 model of choice - a good year - mod away. No warranty to worry about; pleasingly inexpensive to acquire. Plenty available. Massive body of data on the car, just a click or two away.

Do all you can yourself for the experience. When M3/4 comes out, wait 3 years for bug resolution; buy with big fat smile on yer mug, knowing exactly what you're getting, being experienced.

Oh, and forget cold air intakes. Good heavens. You'll really, really benefit if you spend time at E90POST and N54TECH.

Wait....my leg! Really?

Good idea! No sense in putting money in something I wont keep too long. Loving the M3 in the showroom though... Interlagos Blue, Black w/carbon fiber trim inside. Comp pkg with those ridiculous rims! I stop breathing every time I go in looking at it...just might throw a curve ball on Thursday.... $1500 rebate, plus $1000 for showing up and $750 loyalty.... we'll see. Thanks for the advice!
