Do you regret not getting the M6?
Why or why not? Picking up my 2013 650i and starting to think maybe I should've just went all out and gotten the M6. As far as lease, its about 300-400 more per month, do you guys think its worth it?

Not for a second.
Hate the fact that you can't get a sunroof. Hate the fact that you can't get Active Cruise Control - one of my favorite and most used options I rarely, if even, use all the power that my 650 has on the public streets and I don't go to a track. Therefore... An M6 would be overkill. Won't even consider an M6 until it gets a at least a sunroof. When Dinan releases a Stage II for the 2013, that should be pretty close to a stock M6 in terms of power and for fraction of the price. Last edited by Itinj6; 09-28-2012 at 10:20 AM. |

I thought about getting the M6, but I really liked the idea of AWD. Also my 2013 650 is already scary fast!

Nope - 650i with power increase for '13 is close in torque to M6, I prefer the power moonroof to the carbon fiber, the 8 speed automatic to the dual clutch and the color choices - and yeah, the $20,000 savings.

The M6 is an extraordinary machine...period! All I will add to this is that with this car it was not just about going fast. Ever see video of a cheetah chasing prey? How it easily changes direction at speed and with perfect balance? That's the M6.

I'm going to Spartanburg in January for the 2-day M course, so I'll get my M5 and M6 fill there and keep my slightly tamer xDrive variant for the public roads infested with party pooping po-po. The insurance for me was also a consideration as 400 vs 560 hp looks very different on paper and the way that reflects in the bill every 6 months - at least until I hit 25. No regrets - other than wishing I had a 2013, but that's primarily related to feeling cheated and wanting the power on paper. I've never felt like I'm without power.

I am fine with my 2013 640i. Plenty of speed for me and with Adaptive Drive it handles pretty well IMO. Plus with the same 18.5 gallon gas tank I don't like to get out and fill the tank so many times in a week. I realize you can get from point A 2 B really quickly but when I see someone doing that on a public road I usually say to myself. "What an as_" regardless of who it is and what they drive. At what point in a persons life do you decide to act like an adult. I try to be an adult and responsible on public roads. Plus what's the hurry. The faster I get there the less time I get to spend in the beautiful luxurious interior of my 2013 GC.

The difference for me for a similarly equipped 650 xi convertible and an M6 convertible was exactly 15K. I went for the M6 for 2 reasons: slight esthetic differences that appealed to me and the extra power.

Maybe I would have chosen the M 20 years ago. The sports tuned suspension gives too much of a hard ride. I love the grand tourer feel of my 650 Xdrive - smooth, quiet, agile and comfortable. xDrive was a must for me so no 640 or M. Besides, how much more power do you need? I tried once the 0-60 in cold weather, and got 4.5 or so seconds. I never felt that I needed to push the car to its limits. I am not driving too fast, but I like attaining the speed quickly
, never felt the car is not perfectly responsiveThe other thing is the beauty of the 8 speed automatic. Never had anything like this - so precise and fast shifting. No way I am going back to a manual or even dual clutch (main reason I did not get an Aston Martin Vantage was the dreadful gearbox). If you are very young and don't mind the stiff ride and the 20k price increase and will take the car to the track, go with the M. If you value comfort and superb driving agility (but not on par with the M), stay with the 650 and keep your 20k for a great vacation.

I ordered a 650i GC and at first I was about to wait for the m6 gran coupe, but now I am wondering if I should have just gotten the 640.
I just don't see me ever needing the power, and it's quite nice that bmw doesn't really take away any options on the lower engines. I can build a 640 with the same exact options as a 650 and save the money on the engine. I am not actually planing on changing my order but I do wonder if it was really worth the extra cost just for some more horsepower I probably will never need. Edit-- Just noticed that adaptive drive isn't an on option on the 640i. Last edited by djsaad1; 09-29-2012 at 11:54 AM. |

Adaptive drive is a pain. If some pulls out front of you on the highway when you are doing 65-70 and they are simply moving faster the small amount of time they are within sonar range you have set for the adaptive control your car will end up braking hard. Had it on my previous car (MB calls it distance control) and it ended up being more bother than it was worth. Cruise Control is fine. It never overreacts and I can determine if I need to brake. I love the new technology in cars today but some of it is just not that practical in day to day driving.

Adaptive Drive is used for handling characteristics and to minimize body roll. Active Cruise Control is what you describe above. I personally love the Active Cruise Control. Works much better in stop and go traffic which is when I use it most. For the record, Active Cruise Control works on radio waves, not sound waves

This car is very fast. I can't even imagine where I could use the additional speed but I would love to try.

Sorry I stand corrected. I believe someone mentioned adaptive drive did not come as an option in the 640i. It does on the GC. So since I have it on mine I got confused. Regardless I didn't check off that box for the reason mentioned.

Riksut, although I only had my car one week before it was recalled, I agree with svp66 - the ride is noticeably firmer in the M6...even in comfort setting. However, the power is simply staggering and with the M settings done properly, snapping off shifts and accelerating is an amazing sensation. It is a different feel than a 650.

I went from a 2008 BMW M6 convertible to a 2012 BMW 650 ic, very happy with the 650, I do not miss the M6 at all.

Had a 2012 650i vert but wanted something faster and sporty hence I switched to the M6. Love the DCT and the engine roar when you floor the M6.

I'm sure driving the M6 is nothing short of thrilling but I'm very happy with my budget 6er. I paid about $88k for my car and I would have to spend another ~$30k for the M6 and while the performance difference is steep, I don't think I could pull the trigger. I was thinking about getting the Dinan Stage II to get a big performance boost to get a little closer to the M6 but I fear my plans might be changing.
I can however see myself getting an M5 in the near future for very similar performance at a fraction of the price. My car is at ~16k in four months and I expect to be just shy of 48k after the first year. I can either opt to spend roughly $7k on the extended maintenance and warranty or I can put that towards a down payment for a new car. Hopefully I will be able to do an M5 ED by then.
