Question Wrist Watch Collecting

i have a great love of stylish watches and jewelery in general. i have a Rolex styled ring. also have a large square designed "godfather" diamond ring. among other things i've owned a few nice watches.

i now am wanting a new watch, really i want a few. there are a select number of Rolex, Omega, Tag Heuer, and Breitling watches i have in mind. i had looked at Whittnauer and Bulova, but decided that going cheap is going to be noticeable.

along with purchasing any one of the watches, i should probably get a nice wall safe. you really cant just trust people to not be tempted to take something like that.

anyways, i have a nice watch that is similar in design to a Rolex Submariner. its automatic, i love the constant movement that mechanical watches have. instead of a quartz movement. so in a few months when i clear my credit card off, i plan to get a new watch if not two or three new ones. maybe i should take it one at a time though.

my favorite watches being the Rolex Daytona, Omega Speedmaster, and Tag Heuer Monaco. i'm not sure what the model is on the Breitling though, similar in setup to the Daytona.

anyone own such a nice watch?

The watch threads always circulate on the 'fest. I've got an early 90s GMT Master II in a now discontinued color. On a recent trip to an island the watch dealer tried to buy it off my arm for more than it originally cost.

As of late, I've had my eye on a Tag Grand Carrera. I really like it and you can pick them up for about $3400. There are a couple Omegas I like too. Brietling timepieces don't do much for me.

I was checking out a cool looking invicta watch the other day at chronoshark and forgot to buy it. Since it's a deal a day site it was gone when I came back the next day. A shame...it was soooo inexpensive but still had a nice style.

LOL, I monitor that site too. I like this invicta dragon lupah, but I refuse to pay over $400 for one

Just don't buy it new...

I highly suggest these people-

tarrytownjewelers.com

They are negotiable on all their prices and will custom build a Rolex to your specifications.

hmm, wonder what it would cost to refurbish an older broken Rolex? i should see what they charge to repair the movement in one as i've found some good ones cheap that dont work. there's a Rolex dealer here in town too, but very expensive compared to other places. the great thing is i can add a bezel, face, and bracelet of my choice. i'll look into it since it had slipped my mind.

nice one above^. i wanted to get my grandma one also. she had some kind of bad ass diamond watch that was stolen many years ago. i'd like to replace it with something better.

patek philippe has some beautiful watches my father wore those he preferred them over his rolexs but for durability the rolex is better. Since he passed away i got his watches but i never wear them but if you are close to san antonio i know a company there that sells rolexs family friends were in the same industry.

It appears then you want something formal, yet sporty:

Omega Seamaster Chrono
Omega Speedmaster Chrono
Tag Heuer Aquaracer Chrono
Tag Heuer Caliper
Rolex Daytona

If you have enough cash and want something neat, and of couse if it's available, take a look at the new Tag Heuer Pendulum. No spring, magnetic beat!

I'm 99% sure a standard rolex service will fix a broken one. I'm bad with mine, I don't service them every year like I should, but they charge the same amount whether its broken or not, so I wait until it stops beating...

I get mine fixed at Arthur Yates in Tampa.

http://www.arthuryatesjewelers.com/p...ervices/repair

You can give them a call and ask them some questions about it, you could probably even send them your watch if you like their prices.

Rolex recommends service intervals of 5 years. Most go much longer than that without it being an issue at all. You shouldnt have to bring a Rolex in every year.

I don't have a watch. i need one!

...i just have a HR monitor/GPS that I run with. ...otherwise I check my BB for time. I feel odd not wearing anything though...I used to always wear my engagement ring/wedding band (took it off over 6 months ago, and didn't look back), but now I feel weird not wearing anything. What's a decent inexpensive ladies watch?

My wife likes Michele watches. More of a ladies fashion statement but they are also reliable and not to crazy prices. Tag makes some nice watches for the fairer sex also.
