Warm air coming from blower even on cold.

Hoping someone can help here, Not long got my 99 E46, I changed the cd player in it and put everything back together, how ever the center (Face height) fans just above cd player are blowing warm air even though my settings are at cold and the A/C is on. when I put the setting to blow air from head height and also the front window then the two center blowers start blowing cold air but the window is always warm air again even though its set to cold with ac on.
What have I done here and how will I fix it??

Thanks.

Jonathan.

There are five air distribution motors under your dash that divert the air where you or the computer wants the air to go to-depending if you are in manual or auto mode. If you have a Bentley's manual there is a good shot of what they look like in the AC section...page 640-14 of my 1999 thru 2001 manual. Shop manual explains which motor diverts air to footwell and other vents so you can figure out which motor it is that has failed or been disrupted and need realignment or reconnect.

Vent position is controlled by a stepper motor. The flap that directs airflow is called a mode door.

It is possible that you knocked the stepper motor around too much while working in there and seperated it from A/C flap on the heater box- allowing heat to come into play even though you select cool, since the vent cannot close and it is allowing hot air in- my guess.

You are going to have to tear it all back apart and maybe then some to get access to these motors. Not fun. Mine were fixed/messed up when my dash was removed for evaporator swap. Glad this job was done by someone else as it was under warranty.
