Car is off, Key is out, Dash is on...

So this morning my roommate woke me up saying my windshield wipers were on. I thought he was messing with me cus i had the key sitting on my dresser right in front of me. I went out and sure enough they were wiping away and the dash was on as well. I turned the wipers off and rolled the windows down all with the key out.

It did rain a little in my car last night as i had the windows cracked when it started.

Is my ignition switch shot or what?

May very be the ignition switch but I would dDisable the battery first for a few minutes then reconnect and see what happens. You can also check the battery voltage without load because I think all you need is a new battery!

You numbers are lower than expected but not bad! Have you tried disconnecting the battery entirely for about 10mins and then starting your car? I would get the battery recharged at AZ, takes about an hour.

I disconnected the battery for twenty minutes and reconnected it- it did not fix the problem. I am driving the car and noticed that my speedometer and fuel efficiency dials are not working as well as my dash computer selector on my blinker indicator level.

How old is your battery? If it is more than 4 years old, you may want to replace it. This often fixes mysterious electrical gremlins; but it is not a guaranteed solution.

Battery is less than 2 years old but it is a Walmart battery. The rain has to have something to do with this.

I just checked all three central locking fuses and all three instrument cluster fuses and all are fine.

I left the battery unplugged overnight and the dash constant problem is cured. except now my battery light, red oil light are on and my dash computer selector on blinker lever still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Sure sounds like an electrical issue. I'd take the battery to be tested and if possible trickle charged. Just sounds like too many weird issues to be anything but low voltage.

May want to take the alternator off and take it with you to have it tested with the batt. I am assuming the car isn't driveable.

Yea, just have to let them in the trunk to test alternator. some of them get all freaked out by the battery in the trunk thing.

I'm at autozone right now, I have two codes:

P0365 cam shaft sensor bank b
P0455 emmissions no flow

Does this help at all? Charging system is being tested now...

What would disable speedo, mpg gauge and computer selector? Also trigger red oil light and battery light with no related error codes?

Simple things first, get the battery recharged or replace it altogether. Been there, only difference is I didn't have a red oil light, and my problem was solved by recharging the battery at AZ for free. And I'm afraid, a bad battery might have done your alternator too, that's why you are getting a battery light!

[How can AZ say charging system is fine when you have a battery light? Bozzos!]

Well my hunch is there is a short, my whole instrument cluster is messed up so a false positive red battery light it's not out of the question IMHO,

I had a similar issue once. My dash would randomly turn off and go back on while driving making an awesome sound. Or none of my gauges would work at all upon start up. it turned out to be my ignition switch. I replaced it and the problem hasn't came back since.

That's what I hear can cause strange electrical issues. I wish it would throw a fault code >

I already ordered a cam shaft position sensor but that is an unrelated issue.

After doing some research i found out that a failed speed sensor located in the rear passenger wheel will cause the speedo odometer and mpg guage to fail. It will also trip the abs, dcs and brake lights to come on which i do not have, but i do have a red oil light and red battery light.

can anyone make sense of this?

Well I know I have not generated a lot of interest in this thread but I have o update regardless:

My car sat overnight until 2:30 today. Upon starting battery and oil light have shut off, my speedo and mpg gauge is back and my dash computer selector buttons work. Which is to say all electrical issues have subsided. I am guessing that whatever got wet and shorted out has dried and return to normal. For how long I don't know because if this is the case I'm betting corrosion will set in.
