2012 Audi A3 TDI – Review and Test Drive

The Audi A3 answered a question that nobody really asked when it was first brought to the U.S in 2006. It stood relatively unchallenged as a compact premium five-door hatchback, with diesel power available starting with the 2010 model year. Now nearing the end of its model cycle, the A3 has forged a new market segment for itself in the U.S. and introduced diesel to small and premium car buyers alike.
The 2012 A3 TDI is unmistakably Audi. It carries the brand’s aggressive, athletic styling and signature LED running lights when equipped with the Bi-Xenon headlights. Had one as a service loaner and it was outstanding! Would love to see the hatchback return with the new A3 but it won't here -- for whatever reason. Would get one, but it is just a bit too low for my taste, so will wait anxiously to see the new Q5d and how that is before taking the plunge. Still, I did enjoy that little A3 rocket ship for a couple of days. Of course if VW would put the diesel in the new Passat Sportwagon....
