salt stained carpeting

My X1 28i performed beautifully in this terrible Chicago winter. I get in and out of my car at least 6 to 10 times a day. I purchased the best carpet protection I could find. Weather Tamer liners and they worked fine except around the gas pedal, there I have these terrible SALT STAINS.
How do you remove these without ruining the carpeting?

Stiff brush and then vacuum. Soak in carpet cleaner then rinse with baking soda/water mixture. Repeat until stain is removed. Then, carpet clean once again and extract with an extractor or shop vac., blot with clean towels, dry completely then fabric protector. Lots of good automotive specific products. Zeps products available at stores such as Lowes work well. Their foaming high traffic carpet cleaner is a really goo product. Carpet cleaner are generally designed to 'deactivate' after some time so when they get wet again, they don't reactivate and bring stains to the surface again.

Heraldo, in the suburbs here. Same thing! I think I may take advantage of the BMW Spa treatment at Laurel Motors. $199 the detail everything including the headliner and shampoo carpets. Horrible Winter.....
