Rearview Camera on 535i

I am a new owner of a 2008 535i. One thing that I am missing from my earlier car is a rear view camera.

What options do I have to get a rear view camera installed on my 2008 535i and have it connected to my navigation system.

Would appreciate any aftermarket vendor who provide such devices and installations supports.

Thanks
Ajay

There are some nice youtube videos showing what it looks like. Identical to the system they use on Audi and Infinity.

+1! I installed the modmynav module & rear camera. Works great, been almost a year, no problems! The only thing is at very low light it was dim, but I installed LED's on my License plate lights, & it cured that!

Also, let me know your experience with reliability of MODNAV camera.

Yes it does. Go to www.modmynav .com, & select your idrive version ( CCC, or CIC). Your should be CIC. I installed mine almost two years ago, & the front, & rear cameras work great! I also connected an iPad composite cable, to surf, & watch movies on it too!

Am I correct in my suspicion that without Nav, I can't add a camera (easily, that is)?

Well according to their website they offer options for people with and without NAV and both of them are supposedly plug n play.

All that's required is the idrive display. The module is a video switching unit that integrates with the idrive computer. The camera input plugs directly into the module, & the controls become your knob & steering wheel buttons.

Did anyone complete this mod themselves or used a local installer? Please share your experiences.

I installed it myself. Took about 3 hrs., & it was the first time I opened the dash up. The instructions were straightforward, plus I emailed Kris a few times. He answered me promptly, & was very helpful!

Unfortunately for me, if it involves opening console or dash then its above my skill level. I will need to find someone to install this for me if I buy it.

Thanks. Do you know, if I install this Backup camera in my BMW, if this could possibly invalidate any CBO warranty? My car has 34 K miles and my CBO is suppose to cover 100K miles (6 years). Just wanted to check, if installation of this camera may pull me out of warranty.

Thanks.

I have the 100k maintenance free warranty myself. I have had mine over a year, with no problems. I leave it connected when I go to the dealer, & nothing has been said. I don't think it's an issue. It has to directly contribute to the problem to void a warranty, & even that should only happen once if you correct it by removing the aftermarket part. I installed mine with 29k on the odo. I don't remove my DCI either, it I do take off my jb though.

LOL, I go to the dealer with meth kit and DCI fully visible and confirm with them I set JB4 to Map 0 in case they need to plug into the OBD port. I am no longer under warranty though, so they probably don't care. I only go to the dealership for recall items. Their cost/value proposition doesn't work for me.
