Need new tires not sure which brand?

I have a 2011 535i with 19 inch wheels. The car came with the Dunlap run flats which lasted 11,000 miles.

Tomorrow morning I am bringing the car to BMW to replace the tires. They have 3 different tire brands to choose from all which cost around $2,000.

My question is should I go with Dunlap, Michelen or goodyear? Which will give me the best mileage?

I am sure this question was asked before but I wasn't able to find it.

I would skip the runflats and go with some Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Out of the three, Michelin would be my preference.

Michelins are one of the good choices but do yourself a favor and find a good local tire shop.

You will save a lot, get much better selection, and should get road hazard at a modest cost.

Buying tires from the dealer will assure the highest cost and probably less expertise.

Save yourself $500-800 and go to a local tire shop.

Just make sure that you tell the local tire shop to be gentle with dismounting and mounting the tires on your pricey wheels. Tell the mechanic directly too.

$2000 for tires. That is some funny $hit. Buy the tires online and have them shipped or go to a indy tire shop. I got 4 tires + alignment for $1200 , for the 19 inch staggered wheel set up.

If you are unsure about finding the right indy tire shop, I've gotten good service and prices from Costco. Much better prices than the dealer at least.

I dislike run flats as well but if you switch do you buy a spare & have it rattle around in the trunk & also a jack or do you buy a can of flat fix & hope for the best
I am coming from Lexus & it came with run flats but they also provided a space saver spare & jack so it was easy

Those were non RFTs, though, right? Look at the prices of the OE tires on Tire Rack, they are over $400 each. Add shipping and mounting and you're at $2000 easy

I would find a Discount Tire store (they're everywhere) and pick up a set of Michelin Pilot Supersports. I even got a few hundred for my Goodyear runflats. Out the door I was at $1050. for 19" tires with much better handling and performing tires, especially in wet. You also have the option of a road hazard guarantee. they are also lighter than any of the runflats BMW uses. You should definitely notice the difference.

I've also got a small air compressor, patch kit and aerosol puncture sealer in my trunk, taking up much less space than a spare of any sort would. Did the same thing for my Lexus SC430 and never had a flat in 5 years.

Those things lasted only 11,000 miles, geez!

No problems with TPMS right ?

None. This tire is apparently OEM on M-6 convertibles - in a local showroom. Too bad they don't approve it as OEM for 5-cars - one would think if its good enough for the M6, it ought to be for the 550 is well. I guess its just political garbage, as always. BMW only offered RF all-seasons to replace my goodyears, so I got 2 new fronts and traded them to Discount for the tires I really wanted, and that should be a factory option on the 5-car. I have little tolerance for bureaucratic stoopidity, obviously at work here. Their heads are really up their ***es on this one. They thought nothing of replacing my 2 goodyears for $1K+, when for the same money, I got a full set of Supersports, with a speed rating to over 180MPH, as opposed to the 140mph limit on the Goodyears.

My 535i M-Sport with Dunlop is at 14000 miles and still have another 5000 to 10000 mile of tread left...

good point. I guess some people are leasing so they have to buy RFT's to return the car. otherwise, I would never consider those tires again.

You must need a long cord to get to the 12v power sources in car how long do they come ?

Thanks with only 800 miles on these i hit a small pot hole no damage but it felt like an explosion (not liking it)

The power cord isn't that long, but the air hose can reach anywhere around the car. If you have 19 inch tires on the 535ix, keep an eye out for bubbles after harsh impacts. They've been notorious for that.

I had an 09 GS-350 AWD & i heard all about the famous rattles but never had the pleasure

I have the compressor and repair kit from Griot's garage. Between the cord and the hose, I can reach any tire from any of the outlets.

Use the center console one, though. It's a 20 amp full sized fuse, not a 15 amp mini like in the trunk. It'll run the pump, but if you stop the pump and try to restart while it is hot, you'll pop the fuse. Ask me how I know. Allow about 30 seconds to cool down - so don't turn on and off on one tire. Moving from tire to tire is fine.

my dealer does an excellent job mounting and balancing. no damage to the wheels--and i've been doing winter/summer change-overs for a few years on RFT cars.

Since you are in Florida you might not want all season tires but rather dedicated summer tires which should perform better. If you don't want RFTs consider Michelin PSS. If you want RFTs I would consider Bridgestones. I have the Potenza RE050A RFTs and like them a lot. They are maximum performance summer only. This is a relatively old design so I would research the Tirerack and do some comparisons.

It sucks and I can't wait to get rid of them. At least one bubble that I can see and the ride sucks.
